Registration of a Business Name

This is suitable for individuals and partners who carry on businesses under business names other than their own names.

Procedure

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) is the body established by the Companies and Allied Matters Act (the Act) for the regulation and supervision of the formation, incorporation, registration, management, and winding up of companies under the Act. Applications may be made to CAC for the registration of businesses depending on the type of business by way of ownership, liability of owners of the business, and the nature of business. Registration of businesses is now done online via the CAC Company Registration Portal (CRP).

 

Requirements for registration of a business name shall include the following:
  1. Application for approval of name (online)
  2. Duly completed business name application form (online)
  3. Upload the e-signature of proprietor
  4. Upload means of identification of proprietor
  5. Upload passport-sized photograph of proprietor (in the case of individuals) and/or certificate of incorporation (in the case of a corporate proprietor)
  6. Payment of the registration fee via the Remita platform.
  7. Confirm registration status from the CRP dashboard
  8. Download certificate of registration from the CRP
  9. Confirm registration status from the CRP dashboard or via email from CAC
